michal jackowski

At the center of Michał Jackowski's sculptural works are people, their spiritual condition and interpersonal relations. By using timeless, classical aesthetics and media Michał confronts existential and spiritual problems of we all have to face at some point of our lives.

Classical sculptural elements of his works go hand in hand with pop-cultural references. This stark juxtaposition
encourages viewers to reflect upon their own history (life), history in general as well as the here and now.

Deeply rooted in the traditions of antiquity, the artist binds the latter with our modern mythology of consumerism. Resulting works are vivid, striking -classically beautiful and modern in the way they provoke our response.

In Michal’s own words “I [love to] explore human desires and emotions…I’m intrigued by questions of our modern condition…I try to answer them through sculpture, while simultaneously “sculpting” myself slowly day by day. My main artistic mission is to make those who engage with my work think about those issues. Through art I hope to touch core feelings and stimulate reflection. Classicism is the universal language of art, a timeless code. Pop culture is the very substantial “Here and now”. I work with symbols from both of these traditions.”

Michal (1978) is a graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts; he lives and works in Poland.
