Matúš Lányi (1981) is a contemporary Slovak artist known for his thought-provoking work that bridges the gap between traditional Christian iconography and the modern digital world. He often uses painting and video to explore how timeless spiritual themes are perceived in our secular, consumer-driven society. Lányi's art is both an homage to historical religious art and a commentary on how we now find meaning and "worship" in modern brands and technology.
In addition to hyperrealistic paintings, Lanyi is also known for his conceptual artwork whose meticulous technique is a vehicle for a deeply layered, reflective inquiry into the paradoxical relationship between the sacred and the profane.
Matúš Lányi (born 1981 in Spišske Podhradie, Slovak Republic) is a graduate of the Department of Fine Arts and New Media at the Technical University in Kosice, Studio of graphics and alternative media. He worked under academic advisers Rudolf Sikora and Zbyňek Prokop (2000-2007). Lányi’s works are in public collections of the Bratislava City Gallery, Nitrianska Gallery, Gallery of Central Slovakia in Banska Bystrica, Slovak National Museum in Levoca as well as private collections in Europe and the United States.
